Twisty desk lamp features a different joint mechanism. Key point of the project was to figure out a new and functional way to block the arms of the lamp in place. For this reason, spring plungers were used. Knowing that this type of connection will be modulare, smaller and bigger versions of this lamp were designed.
Different sizes are possible with this kind of joints. This is a smaller, bed light,
variant of Twisty lamp.
Usability and affordance are also important goals of this project. You can easily
maneuver lamp arms by grabbing hollow joints with your fingers
and having a full hand grab on light diffuser.
A spring plunger is normally used when an element in toolmaking or machine construction needs to be fixed, indexed or positioned quickly. In this project, spring plungers are applying pressure on particular spots on the joints so they can be blocked in the desired position.
For electricity to pass inside a hollow joint, special copper ring connectors are made. When everything is assembled, ring connectors are sliding on each other allowing electricity to flow.
